About CATSS

The Creighton Atmospheric Science Society (CATSS), is a group of students who, through either their studies or own interests, find weather fascinating. The group’s membership is composed mainly of atmospheric science majors. We participate in various activities, academic and non-academic, such as forecast competitions, hosting guest speakers, attending conferences, or visiting area “weather offices” (i.e. Valley NWS, Offut AFB, television stations).

Our membership is not limited to Atmospheric Science majors and anyone interested in the earth’s atmosphere and its weather is encouraged to join. The active membership are a close knit group who support each other in their academic pursuits. A peer help peer group exists to allow students that excel in certain academic areas (not just Atmospheric Science) assist their peers who might be in need of a little help.

In July of 2005 the group was granted the title of local student chapter by the American Meteorological Society. This event marks the progression of CATSS from a small independent student organization to one with national ties. It will also allow the group to have closer ties with the other local chapters near Omaha: The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Student Chapter and the Omaha-Offutt Local Chapter.

The group meets about once a month in the fifth floor conference room of the Hixon-Lied Science Building at Creighton to discuss issues or events pertaining to the general membership. Check the homepage or calendar for information on meetings, events, or other activities throughout the year.
